Kenzo’s nya kampanj är som en romantisk komedi mellan Upper East Side och Lower East Side.
Han: preppy kille i kimonokavaj, ser ut som att hans mamma fortfarande bokar hans tandläkartid. Hon: fri själ i fluffig väst, luktar patchouli och hyresrättsbråk.
Fotografen Bruce Gilden körde sin klassiska stil: kamera blixt rakt i ansiktet. Så i stället för att modellerna ser ut som eleganta skulpturer, ser de ut som folk som just blivit påkomna med att snatta Red Bull på 7-Eleven.
Det finns kimono-jackor i mjuka neutrala färger, sedan en överrock i neonrosa plysch. Det är som att Kenzo säger: “ja, vi kan japansk skräddarkonst men vi kan också inreda en strippklubb i New Jersey.”
Och den där “dialogen mellan kontrast och connection”? Översättning: rik kille med scarf träffar tjej i second hand-kappa, de går hem till honom och hon stjäl hans jacka.
Resultatet? En kampanj där man inte vet om det är mode eller Tinder med bättre belysning.
